Medical Update

PRAISE THE LORD, we have good news to report! Today was Brett's cancer check up. We were a little nervous having heard he might have to go hypothyroid again (for the 3rd December in a row). We met with yet another new physician in Green Bay (whom we LOVED). It may have been the most entertaining and funny cancer appointment yet (we sort of have a way with humor)! Anyway, Brett's tumor marker and thyroglobulin levels came back in perfect range indicating that the cancer is highly unlikely to return. [insert sigh of relief]

We also learned that compared to most people, Brett's last bout of hypothyroidism (last November - March) was three times more than necessary for the tests he was undergoing. The Doc looked at the previous report and literally laughed out loud stating that it was a miracle he could even walk around (much less carry a full load of classes, rehearsals, performances and various other activities of life). God did that for him and although some may not have understood his condition and may have judged him harshly, we are grateful for all HE did for us.

Anyway, rejoice with us for the good prognosis and report. Thanks for caring and praying for us. Those prayers and words of concern have been such a comfort and encouragement. You are part of our rejoicing.

Update

Some have asked for a 'job and plans' update and since I have been hearing about our supposed 'job and plans' (which were a surprise to me) from others, I thought I might give some genuine insight.

Brett and I have both been 'unemployed' for about 5 months now. As of today, we are sill waiting on the LORD to reveal where we are to go and what we are to do. We do not have any job offers (contrary to rumor). We do have several resumes and applications out. There have been some rumors that we have accepted a position. We have not. It is hard to accept a position that hasn't been offered. Another frequent question is "where are you looking?" The answer is simple, we are looking where ever there is a job God may have for us. We have looked at AZ, IO, IN, MI, MN, FL, and a few other places. The simple answer to "why no job yet?" is "we don't know." We know we are not outside the watchful eye of our God who has a perfect plan. We don't know what that plan is yet but know He does and are waiting on His timing. Perhaps that sounds trite to you or like we are having an easy time of it. On the contrary. We are well aware that money runs out in a month. We are well aware that we have a house to pay for. We are well aware that NO health insurance company is happy to give us a reasonable rate with the diagnosis of 'cancer' in our recent past. We are well aware that our situation is somewhat dire. BUT we choose to be aware that GOD is still not surprised or taken back by any of it. We know He loves us and wants what is best for us and for His glory.

Thank you for those of you who have prayed for us. We appreciate hearing that. We know many must be. Some have also asked if we are disgruntled with our previous employer and no longer support them. We answer a resounding "NO." Northland International University is still supported and prayed for by the Habings. Like any institution, it has its problems and we do have unanswered questions/concerns but they are not ones that would cause us to doubt that the Lord is in that place, blessing it. We look at our situation as bizarrely directed by God. Perhaps NIU outgrew what the Habings had to offer. So be it. We gave it our all and that was not what it institutionally needed.

We are eager for the next step in God's time. Wherever it may be. It seems ridiculous to need to post something like this but recently my sister (who moved to WI just two weeks ago) was "informed" by a well intentioned person that we had indeed found a job and were moving. Understandably, my sister was taken back as we are very close and would obviously be one of the first to know of any plans. This is to help quiet rumors, well intentioned or not and hopefully clarify any misconceptions.

Surprise...I just had a little something to share:

My sister moved to northeast Wisconsin (yes, Niagara!) a little over a week ago with my nephew and niece. They are here short-term so my nephew can take place in the Brain Balance program. We are thankful the program is available to them and I am especially grateful to have family close by for the first time in my adult life!

In other news, Brett and I were to be the featured artists at the area public school's Fall Sing - a choral workshop with guest conductor and a highlighted performing group. We received the word only a few hours ago that the featured conductor unfortunately contracted the flu and would be unable to attend. My first thought was "oh rats! its going to be cancelled."BUT it became an opportunity for Brett...the music directors asked him to step in as guest conductor. I am so grateful that the Lord looked down on us and used colleagues and friends in the community to encourage us at this time. What a kind God we have! And what sweet friends!

So that's it. I'm brimming with gratitude to God for His kindness. Thanks for letting me share.
